Line baiting

Mr and Mrs Skinner outside their house in Geddeston. Lines were baited in preparation for line fishing by attaching lugworm or mussels to the “huiks” (hooks) and was an everyday sight in Avoch. Mr Skinner is attaching a hook to the “want”. The scoo at his side contains marram grass which was used to layer over the line after baiting to stop it snagging.

Mr W D Patience (snr) and Mrs Patience at their house at the Dock in Avoch, baiting their lines. In both photographs the specialised Avoch guernsey can be seen.
