Burnt House
Connections with Canada - This house was once occupied by Sir Alexander MacKenzie, the renowned explorer who was the first man to traverse Canada and after whom the Mackenzie River is named. When le lived here, the house was called Avoch House but since a fire gutted it a good part of it has become known as the Burnt House. Mackenzie is buried in the local Parish Churchyard. There is another house nearby called Avoch House which causes some confusion to Canadian visitors
